My ninth great-grandfather, Richard Higgins, is mentioned in a poem by Heman Doane. The poem caught the attention of Henry David Thoreau. At least some of the information for Joseph Loomis in this book is attributed to the Loomis genealogy, which lists an eighth child in Joseph's family group, i.e. Samuel Loomis, who was born in England. The Loomis genealogy also states that it was Samuel, not Nathaniel as shown here, who married Elizabeth Judd, daughter of Thomas Judd. Consequently, I won't be too quick to believe everything I
